Did you know that diapers are one of the most frequently requested items at Chicago’s food pantries?
Families cannot use government aid like LINK (food stamps) and WIC (Women Infants & Children) to purchase diapers. Despite the need, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which supplies local pantries, rarely has diapers to distribute, and donations of diapers directly to pantries also are rare.
What is more, many daycares and most subsidized childcare facilities require parents to provide disposable diapers. Without disposable diapers, a parent may not have access to childcare essential for that parent to make work, school and job training commitments.
In addition to limiting childcare options, a lack of diapers forces desperate parents to choose between leaving babies in soiled diapers for extended periods or trying to wash and reuse disposable diapers. These unsanitary practices impact a baby’s health and development.
Our mission is to ensure that every parent in Chicago has access to a supply of clean diapers for his or her child.
Our vision is a city where no family’s childcare options or baby’s health are negatively impacted by a lack of affordable diapers.
