The Ingredients You Need To Make A Happy Home

Every happy home has a few key things in common to make it feel truly special. Creating a happy home means you have a space that is relaxing, warm, welcoming and packed with personality from floor to ceiling. And all happy homes have things in common. Here are the ingredients we think make the happiest homes.

A Pet

Whether you’re a cat person or a dog person, having an animal in the house really helps alleviate any feelings of loneliness and depression. It also can help you to keep fit, and teaches your children about being responsible. It’s important to have something around you that’s a living, breathing being, that can give you a sense of your place in the world. They’re relatively cheap to keep, and provide hours of fun. If you’re not too keen on the messy paw prints, the shedding fur and flea problems, opt for fish. Nothing says welcome to my happy home more than a pet. They are also better at keeping mice under control than any pest exterminator!

Fantastic Storage

Stuff. It can be a real irritation when it’s everywhere. You can’t live a relaxed and happy life if you have clutter piled up in every corner of the house. Sort through everything and embrace a serene space that’s easy on the eye. Don’t go too minimalistic though, keep your most precious belongings! Having hidden cupboards, clever shelving and a well-organised loft will make sure that everything has a place and that’s where it lives. This will massively cut down on your stress.

Plants

Furniture is great. Home furnishings are great. Cushions are fabulous. But every home still needs something that grows to give it that sense of living. And not just a dusty spider plant that grows in the corner and everyone forgets about. Get some fresh flowers, or a small fern or palm. If you don’t have a particularly green thumb, why not fake it? However having something organic will make your home feel a bit more alive and the atmosphere always feels a little purer when there’s a plant around. Like pest they’re alive and they breathe.

A Comfy Sofa

It’s a home, not a dentists waiting room. Forget all the high-end, sharp angled, minimalistic seating. They look super swish in showrooms but for a home where you want downtime to put your feet up, they are not comfy at all. Choose a sofa that is warm and squishy that will give you that cuddle you need at the end of the day. Don’t ever compromise on the squish factor for that quiet night in with your feet up so it doesn’t feel like a stiff day at the office.

An Amazing Bed

It’s all about a great nights sleep. Invest in a mattress that suits you. Bed linen that is more luxe feels great when you wake up, and will leave you feeling energised for the day.

A Statement Piece

Whether it’s an interesting piece of art, a huge vase, a cute holiday souvenir or a designer chair, one standout piece will get itself noticed. Statement pieces are great to get the conversation flowing. They also add that extra bit of personality and gives the whole room an important focal point.

Something That Makes You Happy

We all want to have that perfect home that graces the pages of glossy magazines. The perfect space that has every cushion symmetrically arranged, pieces of unique furniture sourced from all the corners of the world and the whole décor going together seamlessly. But honestly, who wants to live in a show home? It’s the quirky, unexpected things that give a space it’s true personality. Toss something a bit strange into the mix and you are guaranteed that your home will be warm and welcoming.

Personal Items

It’s your home. It’s your family’s home. Your children bring their art home from school, and you’ve got so many family photo’s waiting to be printed. You had an amazing wedding that you never want to forget. Your baby is adorable and very photogenic. You have a lifelong collection of ceramics or figurines that you want to proudly display. All of these things are what gives a home its heart. Feature all of these things that are special to you, and it will instantly make your home special too. After all, you don’t want to live in a museum.
